The Spanish property market today

‘In March I travelled the entire Spanish Mediterranean coast, from Begur in the north near the border with France, to Sotogrande in the south, overlooking Gibraltar at the very western tip of the Costa del Sol.

As usual it was research into the Spanish property market that powered my engines. I went to see the most expensive villa in Spain in Sotogrande, and then some of the cheapest villas in Spain in Almeria (price of cheap villas in Almeria just 1 percent of the price of an expensive villa in Sotogrande).

A tad pricey: This property in Sotogrande will set you back EUR 1 million

It struck me how fabulous the Spanish coasts look at this time of the year.’

Expat housebuyers drive Spain’s property boom

MADRID — Expats are emerging as a driving force in the Spanish economy, boosting demand for new housing, analysts say.

House-buying by expats helps to sustain the country’s construction boom, reports the British daily The Financial Times.

"There is no risk of a property crash in Spain in the short or medium term thanks to new demand generated by immigrants," says Angel Berges, a partner at Analistas Financieros Internacionales, a Madrid consultancy.

ALICANTE — European expats choose to move to Spain for the quality of life, a study finds.  The report, by the European Observatory for Social Tendencies based at the University of Alicante, focused on migration within the European Union.
