Spain: One of the Safest Places in Europe

‘New crime figures for Spain show the country to be one of the safest in Europe with 49.3 crimes per 1,000 inhabitants.

Secretary of State for Security, Antonio Camacho, said the number includes data from the National Police, Civil Guard, and regional police forces in the Basque Country and Cataluna, and results in a crime rate 20 points lower than the EU average.’

Very brief histories of every street in Barcelona

This might be useful for visitors to Barcelona- just put in the street name and it will give you a clue from where it derives. For example,. a friend of mine lives on the Rambla del Raval, of which it says:

Raval, Rambla del: An urban area created on the basis of the Pla Central del Raval de Ciutat Vella. It includes the streets of Sant Jeroni and La Cadena, which are integrated into the new area.’

The Spanish property market today

‘In March I travelled the entire Spanish Mediterranean coast, from Begur in the north near the border with France, to Sotogrande in the south, overlooking Gibraltar at the very western tip of the Costa del Sol.

As usual it was research into the Spanish property market that powered my engines. I went to see the most expensive villa in Spain in Sotogrande, and then some of the cheapest villas in Spain in Almeria (price of cheap villas in Almeria just 1 percent of the price of an expensive villa in Sotogrande).

A tad pricey: This property in Sotogrande will set you back EUR 1 million

It struck me how fabulous the Spanish coasts look at this time of the year.’
